    Superb

Upon reaching, we found tags with our names on the shoe rack to indicate where to put our shoes. Service at reception was wonderful. Staff could speak english and guided us to our room. He also took the time to recommend us the local places to go and eat or shop on our tight timeline. Information around the area was also provided. They also allow late check in as we arrived rather late at night. The room design is big enough to accommodate families with children. It is the traditional ryokan style but it is clean and neat. Comes with attached bathroom and toilet as well. There was even a welcome dessert in the fridge. The onsen is also great though it was a bit small. Breakfast was also served with staff explaining the individual dish to you before you commence. I really like this place and will go again!

Place was a little hard to find since we arrived late at night. But it is actually really near the station. Once you locate it then it will not be an issue.

    Exceptional

The room was impeccably clean and the property well-appointed in true Japanese style. The small staff where obliging and friendly at all times. Their service was the best we had in our Japan visit. The staff were particularly kind to my young daughters. The small gift that they gave our girls was greatly appreciated. Five-star (*****) service. This property is totally recommended for families and couples visiting Takayama. Thank you.

For overseas travellers, on-site laundry is a requirement.

Typical ryokan, very nice and helpful staff. Close to the train station and tourist area. Beautiful room. Amazing!

    Very good

For a ryokan it was not expensive. The people were really kind and the bath was okay. The have wifi and a laptop with internet. If you want to see what a ryokan is all about but you don't want to spend a ton of money, then this is certainly a good option.

It is a rather big ryokan. Therefor it feels a bit like your in a hotel.

    Superb

The hotel staff is very helpful in all respects. I am very impressed with the hotel effort to provide extremely cheap bus service to visit Shiragawa-go as compare with the fare charged by the private bus co. While the Japanese style breakfast is average in taste, the hida beef dinner is highly enjoyable though the price is a bit on the high side.

I suppose the hotel can spray air freshener in the room to make it smell nice.

Friendly staff, nice ryokan. Very good breakfast.

Room a little bit noisy due to the onsen

The food was absolutely excellent and delicious, especially dinner - Hida beef is amazing! We were able to try it in two styles - grilled on cast iron over a flame at our table, as well as in shabu-shabu, again cooked at the table. I also got to try hooba miso for breakfast, while my husband had a Western-style breakfast. The service was friendly and helpful - the staff had varying degrees of English, but all did their very best to communicate. I loved our Japanese style room with private bath - just a lovely, clean, beautifully designed room I was happy to be in. We were on the 2nd floor right over the reception area, so we got a strong wifi signal (supposed to only be wifi in the lobby). There were public baths but we didn't use them, so I can't comment on them. We had our luggage shipped to the hotel, and they put it in our room for us so it was there upon arrival. It was also a convenient walk from the jr Station. Overall, I would highly recommend staying here, and definitely get the half board option.

I wouldn't say I disliked this, and I wouldn't want them to change it, but Westerners should be aware that all the seating in your tatami mat room and the dining room is Japanese style - on the floor, with no hole under the table to put your feet or anything. Personally, my legs get a bit stiff sitting crosslegged or kneeling on the floor so it was a small issue at dinner, but the room was comfortable since I could stretch my legs out.

    Fabulous

Ryokan's have spacious rooms compared to hotels in Japan, friendly service, onsen bath, short walking distance to station and about 10 minutes to most sights.

    A bit rundown.

absolut great ryokan to stay in, extraordinary friendly staff, comfy rooms, very good food, best place we had during our trip

    Fabulous

Rooms are spacious and very clean, bathrooms are Japanese style.

The restaurant only offered three dinnner choices all of which were quite pricey. Given that mots businesses in town close quite early there is not a lot of choice elsewhere in the near vicinity.
